FAQs

What Can I Call My Site?

When we say name your website, we are referring to the www.websitename.co.uk or .com part. These are referred to as domains or website address. Usually you will choose www. and your business name. If no one else has already made a site with that domain, then it's as simple as purchasing it, and applying it to your website. If the name you want is unavailable, you may need to consider using a hyphen to break up wording, or adding words such as services to the domain to obtain one that is relevant to your name but not taken.

What Is Hosting?

Hosting refers to the process of having your website stored on a server. This means it is then accessible to those on the internet. Hosting is most commonly payed for on an annual basis, essentially renting a space to store your website on the internet.

Are There Ongoing Costs, & What Do I Need To Manage?

Yes, ongoing website costs include hosting and domain renewal as mentioned above. These are equivalent to vehicle MOT and TAX in the website world. Unfortunately, you cannot buy a domain outright, or indefinite hosting. These aspects can be set to auto renew, so you simply need to make sure you have the required funds in place when the period renews. You may have also heard about SSL certificates. These simply validate the site as trustworthy to Google and other search engines. With WIX you don't even need to consider or know how they work. SSL certificates are applied to your site automatically and as standard when using WIX.

Why Do I Need To Renew My Domain?

Domain names, aka, website addresses are actually rented. The registry is the top organisation that will sell domains to the public through a registrar such as Go Daddy. The registrant will be the individual buying the domain from the registrar. This purchase will last for a certain amount of time. Before it runs out, you will have the opportunity to renew it, you can even set it to auto renew so you don't forget, meaning as long as you keep on top of this, it will stay in your ownership. If you fail to renew, the domain will go on the open market, meaning someone else can purchase it.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimisation. SEO is used to provide a greater chance of appearing on Google and other search engines first, or within earlier pages. This is mostly achieved by using the correct keywords in the text across your site. Other aspects such as images and site structure all help search engines understand your site, and also support this process. SEO is also an ongoing process, which can have continual work applied to further its success. Positive interactions will also promote success over time. Many other aspects such as competition, budget, and how people find your services all impact on what is achievable with SEO for a given project. We cannot guarantee specific results, or definitive success with the SEO process however, we will ensure good SEO practice is used on your website.

Do I Need SEO?

Yes, all sites should have a minimum SEO standard so that search engines can easily understand them. Whenever a site is built, it should always have good SEO practices in place. Success in SEO can sometimes come easy, for example if you are in an uncompetitive area or space within your industry, and people actually search for your product or service online, then it is likely you will do well. If however, you find yourself in a competitive space, or your target audience doesn't search for your service or product online much, then there may be other ways with greater value to consider when investing your time and money to generate leads over SEO. This may include leaflets, social media, business cards, or email marketing to targeted demographics that drive customers to your site. Websites provide a useful form of legitimacy that can be used as a trustworthy point of reference for people to understand your business, have an easy means of contacting you, or even providing payments.

Is A WIX Site Correct For Me?

Wix sites provide great designs, ease of use, and simple management of your digital assets. Wix sites are best suited to businesses who wish to have great displays, with the option for lots of rich media and functions that are interesting and useful for the user. The main factor to determine if WIX is right for you is SEO. As mentioned above, SEO helps you rank on Google and other search engines. The king platform you may have heard of for SEO is Wordpress. Wordpress sites, when made well, are very digitally lightweight, and therefore tend to be the best performing sites when it comes to dominating ranking on search engines. The downside of Wordpress, is that SSL certification, hosting, and domain management all become separate things to manage. Meaning you will need to do this yourself, or pay for for a website company to do so. Wordpress is therefore a good choice for higher budgets, where you actively want the website to generate business from internet users. So where does WIX come in? WIX is perfect for businesses who do not necessarily prioritise their site to generate business, and therefore wish to have a reasonably priced site that outlines their business, and provides the option for customers to view their work, values, and of course, easily contact them. We can also set you up with links and payment options so that any transactions go through your site. Meaning invoicing and incoming payments can all run through your site, making your tax return a doddle. In short, Wordpress is a good option if you feel the investment and requirement for internet driven leads is what you need. WIX will be your best option if you prioritise design, cost efficiency, and ease of use and management.              â€‹
